Neumann Gefell SMS70
Modular Microphone System with a nice selection of high quality capsules
The "Studio Condenser Microphone System" SMS70 was the answer of Neumann Gefell to the "fet 80" series (KM83, KM84, etc.) of Neumann Berlin. The development was realized in a cooperation with the Rundfunktechnisches Zentralamt Berlin (RFZ).
The first microphone amplifier in the system, the MV690, appeared in 1969. Further models - the MV691 and the MV692 - followed. All three models are built in transistor technology and were produced in large quantities.
Echoschall has two MV690 (refurbished by Andreas Grosser) and ten capsules in the program. The capsules are four M70 (cardioid), two M93 (omni), two M58 (omni) and two M69 (also omni). The M58 has more top end than the M93. The M69 is free field equalized and therefore well suitable for close micing.
