The classic shotgun microphone
- Sennheiser was the pioneer in the development of shotgun microphones: first from 1956 with the dynamic MD82, later from 1964 with the first shotgun condenser microphones MKH804 and MKH805
- the MKH416 was introduced in 1975 and was one of the first Sennheiser microphones with 48 V phantom power
- relatively short shotgun, low weight (175 g)
- high directivity: combination of supercardioid (up to 2 kHz) and lobe (from 2 kHz)
- weatherproof due to the radio-frequency circuitry, also relatively insusceptible to wind and popping noises
- low self-noise; high feedback rejection
- slight boost of the high frequencies
- Rycote wind shields available for hire for both rental copies
- manufacturing period: since 1975
